Annie Tirschwell began her career in real estate as a key member of the Chelsea Market Building development team, for whom she also managed other adaptive re-use development projects in New York City, including the 2.5-million square-foot Factory and Falchi Building complex in Long Island City. Subsequently, she went on to develop numerous industrial buildings for The Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center, and shortly thereafter co-founded Civic Builders, one of the nation’s most prolific and respected developers of facilities for the charter school community. At Civic Builders, she was responsible for the creation of a 13-building, 1,000,000-square-foot real estate portfolio valued at over $500,000,000. In 2013, Annie co-founded Type A Projects to further her work with such clients as Harlem Village Academies, Milk Studios co-founders, and Industry City to develop new, highly productive and innovative real estate project types.
Jill Crawford has spent the last 15 years preserving, adapting, renovating, and creating buildings that support the social fabric of New York City’s neighborhoods and communities. While leading a joint effort by the New York Landmarks Conservancy and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation to preserve Harlem’s historic buildings, she undertook more than 25 preservation projects at historic houses of worship. As an executive with Civic Builders, she was instrumental in the creation of thousands of high quality public charter school seats in New York’s most underserved neighborhoods. Her work leveraged a range of funding sources, including the NYC School Construction Authority capital funds, the US Education Department Credit Enhancement, New Market Tax Credits, and groundbreaking program-related investments from major national foundations and private philanthropic groups. Civic’s award-winning schools and non-profit development structure have served as a national model for community development. Jill co-founded Type A Projects in 2013 to continue working on high-impact, creative, multi-use real estate projects with clients such as Harlem RBI and DREAM Charter School.
