Type A Projects is leading River Commons, a catalytic mixed-use development comprised of 328 affordable apartments, a 43,000 square foot public healthcare center to be operated by NYC Health + Hospitals – Gotham Health, 6,000 sf of community facility space and a 7,500 sf public open space. The product of a mission-aligned public-private partnership, River Commons will deliver beautifully designed, sustainable homes for extremely low- and low-income households. In collaboration with NYC H+H’s Housing for Health Initiative, thirty percent of units will be set aside for supportive housing with on-site services provided by BronxWorks.
The re-development of this former parking lot will bolster the neighborhood with the inclusion of a new BronxWorks Empowerment Center and the African Resource Center in place of traditional ground-floor retail. These two rooted community-based organizations will offer a broad roster of services including innovative family-centered initiatives, education and workforce development programs, and employment and legal counseling. Alongside these new amenities, River Commons will also create new public open space designed through a series of collaborations with the community and featuring a public art installation to complete the streetscape transformation.
